The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of John Toole can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence From: Julie Grindle
Condolence: Professor Toole was my freshman advisor at UMaine in 1969. I have never forgotten his kindness during my first semester in college. You see, I was about to fail calculus!! I had been at the top of my high school class and this course difficulty was very stressful. Professor Toole took the time to calm me down, tutor me and advise how to study for finals. I did not fail calculus!!!
My adult life has been spent in Hancock as an educator in the area. Now retired, I always think of him as walk on Hancock Point. Our paths crossed only briefly but his impact on a young college student has lasted a lifetime.
My sincere condolences to the family.
