James F. Green
Hermon
James Frederick Green of Hermon passed away on December 18th after a long illness with his beloved wife Brooke and family members by his side.
He was born on March 26, 1948 in Bangor and grew up on Parkview Avenue, the son of the late James W. and Jessie W. Green. Called "Fred" as a child, he enjoyed tinkering with cars. He graduated from Bangor High in 1966.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel. Jim was a decorated UH1 helicopter pilot; serving in the National Guard with the 112th and 196th Air Medical companies and as commander of the 314th Medical unit in Millinocket. Jim loved to fly and his last deployment was serving in Operation Desert Storm.
In 1975, he began a 33 year career of service to his community as a member of the Bangor Fire Department. D crew was his home and he was a paramedic and a pump operator/engineer though he may be better known for his culinary expertise.
Jim was an active and lifetime member of the Bangor Elks Lodge and considered his brother Elks his extended family.
He was an ardent outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and snowmobile. He loved his dogs Hunter, Emmy and Arthur. In later years, he enjoyed his camp at Spectacle Pond. Jim will be sorely missed by all who knew him but will be remembered with reverence for his kind heart, bigger than life smile and his willingness to always help those in need.
He is survived by his wife Brooke of Hermon, his son James C and Stacey and their son James M. of Etna, as well as his brother Tom and Julie of Dothan Alabama, his sister Julie and Liz of Bangor, his brother Bill and Pam of Cumberland and his sister Marcia and Jim of Worcester, MA., as well as several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jim's life is scheduled for Wednesday, December 27, from 5 to 7 p.m..at the Family Reception Center of Brookings Smith 163 Center St., Bangor Maine. The Bangor Elks ceremony will be at 5:45 with the Bangor Fire Department farewell to follow.
Friends are invited to make contributions to MCCP, Maine Childrens Cancer Program c/o Bangor Elks Lodge 244, 108 Odlin Rd., Bangor Maine. 04401.
