On December 21, 2017 Marian, 91, went to her heavenly home which Jesus has prepared for those who believe in Him.
Marian was born in Calais, Maine on April 15, 1926 to Leonard and Edythe (McCarthy) Grant. She was married to her teen-age sweetheart Stanley Gunn for 71 years.
Marian belonged to Columbia St. Baptist Church for 75 years and devoted much of her life to its service, teaching Sunday school to young folks as well as seniors. She was President of the Frances Noble League Mission work and started the Pioneer Girl program. Marian had been a member of the Pilgrim Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Bangor since 2013.
Marian graduated from Bangor High in 1944 and attended Northwestern Bible School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She lived in Levant the first year of their marriage and taught school in South Levant. Later on she was the first teacher’s aide for the Bangor School system working for Perry Jordan. She worked for 25 years as a medical secretary to Dr.’s Brown, McEvoy, and Maunz, State St. Bangor. Marian and Stan were volunteers for fourteen years at the China Lake Conference Center, where she was acting as librarian and hostess and Stan doing the maintenance. When living in Florida for ten years she conducted a bible study in Fox Run Retirement Park and a jail ministry in Lake County, Tavares, Florida.
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was predeceased by her parents, her only brother Philip of Idaho, and her sister Hilda Johnson of Pennsylvania.
Marian is survived by her husband Stanley Gunn of Bangor and one sister Betty Knapp of Tennessee. She is survived by her son, Jerry Gunn and wife Debbie of Newburgh, daughter Judy Moody and husband Steve of Holden. The four grandchildren are Joshua Gunn and wife Holly of Brewer, Caitlyn Gunn of Bangor, Loralie Clark and husband Alan of Kansas, Meagan Phillips and husband Daniel of Georgia. The six great-grandchildren, all dearly loved by GG, are Jonathan and Jillian Gunn of Brewer, Benjamin, Abigail and Rebekah Clark of Kansas and Jamir Phillips of Georgia. There are numerous nieces and nephews.
Marian wanted to recognize Leyna and Dolly of Hospice of Eastern Maine, who faithfully brought compassion and professionalism to her care. A special thanks to Chaplain David Gardner who brought spiritual encouragement each week through his music and sharing God’s Word.
Graveside services will be held at 1 P.M., Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at Pine Grove Cemetery, Hammond St. Ext., Bangor. A celebration of Marian’s life will be held at Pilgrim Church, 375 Mt. Hope Ave, Bangor, on December 30th at 11:00 A.M.
A time of sharing and refreshments will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
