BREWER and BANGOR – Mary Lee “Lee” Rogers, 84, passed away peacefully on December,20th, 2017 at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She was born on January 18, 1933, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Lee was the daughter of Harold Wood and Leta Weymouth.

Lee grew up in North Berwick, Maine and graduated from Oak Grove School for Girls, in the Class of 1950. Following graduation she attended the New England Conservatory of Music, in Boston, Lee spent several years living in New York, as a professional singer. Lee never lost her love of music or the people and cultures she encountered in New York. Lee’s love of culture meant that she’d make many recipes from around the world, one of her favorites was Szekely Goulash, much to the dismay of her grandson.
Once she returned to Maine, Lee remained active in the community, an active member of the Friends of Maine Hockey for many years, as well as the Bangor Junior League, even acting as the chair of the Penobscot County Women’s Republicans. She loved politics and her community. When the dust settled Lee fell in love with the state of Maine, and nothing could keep her away. Her brother Lieutenant Fred Wood, built a camp on Cold Stream Pond in Enfield, Maine a place that would become special to her beyond words. She would live by the motto “A bad day at camp is better than a good day anywhere else.” Her camp is also where she met her husband, Will, in 1959. They were married for 56 years, she didn’t have a fishing license, but she reeled him in. Her favorite sight on the lake was the flag that stands on the island, which was dedicated to her brother Fred who passed away fighting in Korea. She’ll always be remembered by her family with the flag. In addition to her parents Lee was predeceased by her brother Fred Wood, who passed away fighting in Korea. Lee and Fred were incredibly close when they were young, and Lee has always looked forward to seeing him again, we’re glad to say she finally will.

Lee is survived by her husband, Will Rogers, not the famous one, her three sons, Fred Rogers and his wife, Cindy of Brewer, Shaun Rogers and his wife, Pam of Dublin, Ohio, and Todd Rogers and his wife, Jaime of Passadumkeag; her grandchildren, T.J. and Taya Rogers, Nicole and Izybella Libby; many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend visiting hours 5 to 7pm Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St, Bangor. A funeral service will be held 1pm, Thursday, December 28, 2017 at All Souls Congregational Church,10 Broadway, Bangor with the Rev. Chad Poland, Pastor and Teacher and the Rev. Renee U. Garrett, M. Div. Minister of Christian Nurture, officiating. A reception will be held in the church vestry immediately following the service Thursday. Spring interment will be in Howland Cemetery, Howland.
