Obituary for Richard A. Sprague

Carmel – Richard Albert Sprague Jr., 49, died unexpectedly December 20, 2017 at his home in Carmel. He was born June 14, 1968, in Bangor, the son of Richard A. Sprague and Jacqueline (Davis) Santos.

Rich graduated from Hermon High School, Class of “87”, and the Diesel Technical Institute in Enfield Connecticut in 1989. He started a lifelong career at Lane Construction as a heavy diesel mechanic for the last 28 years, working up to his current position as general foreman. Rich took great pride in his work and the relationships he formed with his coworkers.

He always had a special love for working on cars which he inherited from his father, and has passed onto his nephew. Rich was a passionate outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed lobstering with his grandfather and uncle George, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, cooking, sharing stories, and taking long rides on his Harley Davidson. Rich loved his family, friends, but mostly spending time with his grandchildren.

He was a member of the St. Andrews Lodge #83 A.F. & A.M. of Bangor and Anah Shriners where he was a Keystone Cop and participated in many parades throughout the summers.

Rich was predeceased by his father, Richard A. Sprague. He is survived by his mother, Jackie (Davis) Santos and her husband, Alfred of Brunswick, ME and Rockledge, FL; daughters, Kristen Bowden of Bangor and Andrea Morin of Brewer, and their mother, Linda Sprague of Brewer; grandchildren, Grace, Carson, and Ryder Bowden of Holden; sister, Theresa Byers, and her husband, Dale, of Myrtle Beach, SC; nephews, Clay Byers of Nashville, TN and Griffin Byers of Myrtle Beach, SC; aunt, Ann Marie Sprague of Milbridge; uncle, George Sprague and cousin, Mark Sprague both of Bucks Harbor; Godparents, Val and Rick Maker of Arkansas; many other special family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 5-8pm Friday December 29, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor where a Masonic Memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. by the officers and members of St. Andrews Lodge #83 A.F. & A.M. of Bangor. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday December 30, 2017 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Interment will be held in the spring.
