Obituary for Timothy James McCann

BANGOR AND LEXINGTON, MA – Timothy J. McCann, 71, died at his home in Lexington, MA, January 3, 2018 after a long illness. He was born Nov. 14, 1946 in Bangor, son of Edward L. and Edith M. (Soucy) McCann.

After graduating from Maine Central Institute, Tim enlisted in the Army and served from 1964-1967. He worked as a computer operator in various industries. Tim was an All-Star Western Union Teletypist where he also telegraphed live national sporting events in Boston (Go Patriots!). Tim was actually broadcasting live telegrams of the famous 1972 Stanley Cup Championship games (Go Bruins!) and others. He enjoyed College & Pro football, was an avid cribbage player, Professional “Experimental Cook” and a lifelong philanthropist of the highest caliber. Tim loved sacrificially, gave abundantly, encouraged relentlessly and fought tirelessly. His life exemplified what it meant to, “Do the right thing.”

In addition to his parents, Edward L McCann Sr, Edith M. (Soucy) McCann, Tim was predeceased by his former wife, Mary Egan McCann; brothers, Edward L. McCann Jr., Stephen McCann, Christopher McCann and Clarence McCann. Surviving are daughters,
Tammie from Portland, ME, Kimberly from Scarborough, ME and Mary from Fitchburg, MA, sons, James from Portland, ME, Timothy from Lexington, MA and Michael from Glenburn, ME; brothers: Paul and his wife, Marjorie from Brewer, ME, Don and his wife, Statia of Gilbert, AZ, Mike and his wife, Jackie of Lyman, ME ,Joe and his wife, Marilyn of Brewer, ME, Tom McCann of Mesa, AZ, Jim and his wife, Brenda of Falmouth, ME and Ray and his wife, Carol of Fullerton, CA; sisters, Mary and her husband, Ed of New Port Richey, FL, Dory and her husband, Mike of Gilbert, AZ, Elizabeth and her husband, Steve of S. Hampton, MA, Ellen of Dedham, ME, Margaret and her husband Phil of Waterville, ME and Kathy and her husband, Bill of Taylors, SC.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm, Sunday, January, 7, 2018 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 am, Monday, January 8, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, 207 York Street, Bangor. Spring interment will be in Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor, following the mass Monday.
