Ruth M. Heath, 96, died January 5, 2018, at a local hospital. She was born in Milltown, New Brunswick, Canada, June 30, 1921 to Alexander and Elizabeth (Stewart) MacPherson. After attending schools on Old Ridge, New Brunswick and graduating from Woodland High School, she ventured first to Ricker College and then Boston for nursing school. After receiving her RN at the Deaconess Hospital, she started her nursing career in Boston.
She met her future husband Charles W. Heath at Ricker College and they were married several years later in 1946. For the first few years of their marriage they lived and worked in Boston and then moved to Hodgdon, Maine where they resided for 40 years. She continued her nursing career at Aroostook General and Houlton Regional Hospitals. She was very passionate about her career and it showed in the care she gave to all.
She lived a long, healthy and very active life. She especially loved swimming at Pleasant Pond which she did well into her 90s; berry picking for jams and pies; and sewing and knitting for her family. But mostly she loved spending time with her eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. They brought her great joy and she made each grandchild feel like they were her favorite. She was a member of Columbia Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Elizabeth and John DeJulio of Carmel, NY, Janet and James Timmins of Scarborough, Margaret and Tommy Bell of DeFuniak Springs, FL; one son Donald and his wife Lola Heath of Bangor; eight grandchildren, Joel Timmins, Kathleen Korenda, Marc Barnes, Litsa DeJulio, Timothy DeJulio, Joshua Heath, Jordan Heath, Emily Tilton and nine great grandchildren.
