R. DEANE ANDERSON
ORONO & BANGOR – Ronald Deane Anderson, 96, passed away January 1, 2018, in Bangor. He was born March 13, 1921, in Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of David and Cora (Rand) Anderson.
Deane graduated from Orono High School, Class of 1940. On December 8, 1941, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. the day after the Pearl Harbor attack. Deane served in the South Pacific, and was involved in many major conflicts, including Guadalcanal. Following the war, he married the love of his life, Kathleen “Kay” Willette, from Old Town, and together shared 72 years of marriage. Deane worked as a meat manager for a number of Bangor area Doug’s Shop n’ Save grocery stores until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orono. Deane and his wife were avid sports fans, supporting the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, and especially local high school sports teams. He will be remembered for his uplifting, fun spirited personality, and a sense of humor that brought a smile to many. Deane was a loving and caring Husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and uncle who will be missed dearly by his family and all who knew him.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is predeceased by two brothers, Keith and Rand Anderson. Surviving are sons, Ronald Anderson of Flanders, NJ, Darryl Anderson of St. Albans, and Earl Anderson of Newport; daughters, Deana Chase of Westbrook, and Randa Junkins of Mount Wolf, PA; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Anderson of New Bern, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial reception to celebrate Deane’s life will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday February 9, 2018 at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at Brookings-Smith.com
