Obituary for Arthur Allen Comstock

ORONO – Arthur A. Comstock, 84, died peacefully January 17, 2018 at Dirigo Pines in Orono, Maine with Betty by his side, where she has been for sixty-three years. He was born June 12, 1933 to Arthur Comstock Sr. and Emily (Berube) Comstock.

Arthur graduated from Old Town High School in June of 1951. He attended Husson College and graduated in 4 years with an honorary degree in business. He also graduated from Rutgers School of Banking. Arthur married Betty Lee Avery his second year at Husson. They grew up together just three houses apart. Arthur was a very quiet person and Betty was vivacious and lively which made for a great couple. Arthur received his letter to join the Army and trained at both Fort Dix in New Jersey and Fort Gordon in Georgia. Then, he was sent to Germany until his two years were up; Betty joined him there. Shortly upon arriving home, Arthur was offered a job as Bank Manager for Northeast Bank in East Millinocket, where he worked for eight years. He was then transferred to the main bank in Millinocket where he became President and was there for twenty years. After this, he was transferred to the main office in Bangor where he was President. He worked there for a few years and then retired. Shortly after this, he was asked to join Camden National Bank in Bangor where he agreed to serve in a part-time capacity and worked there until he was 76. Arthur became very involved in the community as a banker and was on many boards. Dear to his heart was Eastern Maine Medical Center, Acadia Hospital, Eastern Area Agency on Aging, where he was Vice President, and the Katahdin Area Council Boy Scouts of America where he served as Treasurer.

Arthur was predeceased by his mother, Emily, his dad, Arthur Sr. and his brother, Allen. He is survived by his wife, Betty, his son, Thomas and his wife, Sue and two step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his adopted daughter, Cherie and two sisters-in-law, Adath and Nadia; several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Arthur’s life at a visiting hours reception at Penobscot Valley Country Club on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10am Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Resurrection of the Lord Parish, Holy Family Church, 429 Main Street, Old Town, with the Rev. Wilfred “Bill” Labbe, celebrant. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Spring interment will be in the Milford Cemetery.
