Obituary for Thelma M. "Auntie" Woodbury

BANGOR & GLENBURN – Thelma “Auntie” M. Woodbury, (also known as Jeff), 88, of Bangor, died peacefully on February 3, 2018, at her Glenburn residence, with her niece, Sonya, by her side. Thelma was born in Bangor on August 17, 1929, the daughter of Alice M. (Flagg) Woodbury Fowler and W.M. Lloyd Woodbury.
Thelma spend most of her adult life living as a loved and cherished member of the family of her twin sister, Eleanor, and brother-in-law, Warren Gustafson, to help raise their seven children, where she was thought of as a second mother. In later years, Thelma lived with her mother and lovingly cared for her until her passing. Thelma has also always remained a big part of her nieces and nephews families. She spent many years with her close friend, Millie, where they spent countless hours talking on the phone reminiscing, going to Bingo, putting puzzles together, and participating in various activities. Thelma was also an active member of the Bangor Advent Christian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Claudia Rose Woodbury; step-father, Charles Fowler; brother, William Lloyd Woodbury; her twin sister, Eleanor and husband, Warren Gustafson; nephews, Richard and David Gustafson. Surviving are a half-brother, William Woodbury of Clifton; two half-sisters, Flora and Melanie; nieces and nephews, Victoria J. Holman and husband, Walt of Bangor, Brenda D.G. Travis and her husband, Paul, of North Carolina, Raymond L. Gustafson of Bangor, Catherine A. Day and her husband, Raymond of Shirley, Sonya M. Brown and husband, Fred of Glenburn, and many great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank those involved in Thelma’s care. First and foremost, Dr. David Martin, and Dr. Jennifer Horne. Hospice care givers, Marjorie Turner, Dolly Chessley, Sheryl Dyer, Connie Frye, Rev. David Gardiner, and may others. Home health care givers, Valerie Dyer, who was with Thelma for many years, Sarah Regler, Maribel Stevens, Jackie Hoff, and Rhonda Rogerson. Thank you also to Rev. Clayton Blackstone for his special visits.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of the Advent Christian Church of Bangor, officiating. Friends are welcome to call 1 p.m. until time of service Wednesday. Spring interment will be in Mt.
