Obituary for Reginald H. "Reg" Withington

BANGOR – Reginald H. Withington, 91, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. Reginald was born July 27, 1926, in Rockland, Maine, the son of Reginald H. Sr. and Theresa V. Louraine Withington. He was a 1944 graduate of Rockland High School. After graduating from high school, he served with the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division during WWII. He met and married Jeanette Gardner Withington in 1949. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Reg worked for King Cole Potato Chip Company for many years and ended his career with Frito Lay when he retired in 1986. He enjoyed golf, cards, and watching sports. His highlight was watching his son, Bruce, play basketball for Bangor High School. He was predeceased by his parents, Jeanette Withington, and three sisters, Martha Newmeyer, Naomi and her husband, Malcolm H. Ingraham, and Yvonne Withington. He is survived by his loving children, Brenda M. Wickware of Portland, Karen M. DiSalvatore and her husband, Colombo, of South Windsor, CT., Mary Jo Freeman of Portland and Bruce H. Withington of Bangor. He was "Grampa" to nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, soon to be 17 and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to the staff at the Bangor Veterans Home for the wonderful care and compassion given to Reg and his family. A private memorial service with military honors will be held in the spring.
