Obituary for William R. McHale

BANGOR – William R. McHale, 80, died February 21, 2018 at a local hospital following a brief illness. He was born June 24, 1937 in Bangor, the son of Arthur and Teresa (Murphy) McHale.

Bill was a graduate of John Bapst High School, class of 1955. Following graduation, he joined the Maine Air National Guard, retiring in October of 1993 with the rank of SMSGT. He was a member of the Penobscot County Conservation Club and was a great lover of the outdoors, especially fishing at East Grand Lake. Bill will be remembered as a very generous and loyal friend.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Douglas R. Powell. Surviving are his sister, Katherine P. (McHale) Powell of Fort Walton Beach, FL and one aunt, Winnifred E. Murphy of Holden; numerous cousins and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to call 5 to 7pm Friday, February 23, 2018 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A Funeral Mass will be held 10 am, Saturday, February 24, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor, followed by the Rite of Committal with military honors at Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to a reception in the church hall following the services. Those who wish to remember Bill in a special way may make gifts in his memory to All Saints Catholic School, P.O. 1749, Bangor, ME 04402-1749.
