Obituary for Elizabeth Beal ((Henderson))

Elizabeth H. “Beth” Beal, 92, died peacefully March 1, 2018, at a Bangor healthcare facility, surrounded by her family. She was born July 27, 1925 in East Holden, the daughter of Clifton O. and Delia (Smart) Henderson.

Beth graduated from Brewer High School, Class of 1942, and attended the Maine School of Commerce, now Husson University. She worked for the Bangor Hydro Electric Company as a head teller from 1943 to 1954. Beth married Harold Beal of Bangor on October 16, 1947, settling in Bangor, and later, Brewer. They shared 50 years of marriage until his death in 1997. With the birth of Beth’s daughter, Dianne, she began her career as a loving housewife and mother, which she continued until her death. Beth was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Brewer, where she was involved as Superintendent of Sunday School, a Sunday School Teacher, as well as countless clubs and offices. She was well known for her apple and custard pies at the church suppers and fairs. Beth was also a lifelong member of the Holden Grange. She loved her long time memberships in clubs, such as The Brewer Garden and Bird Club, MPM Club, and Kings Daughters and Sons of Brewer.

In addition to her parents, Beth was predeceased by her sister, Merle Boardway and Lillian Henderson. She is survived by her daughter, Dianne Sickles; son, David Beal; grandchildren, Mary Harrison and husband, Josh, Sean Sickles, Andrew Beal, Matthew Beal; great-grandchildren, Titania Harrison, Malcolm Harrison; nieces and nephews, Stephen Boardway and Stephanie Harp, Lynn Boardway, Lee and Jai Boardway, Karen and Rodney Duplissea, Charles Lobley, Patsey and Jack Harger, Nancy Norwood, Elizabeth Birchfield, and Linda Birchfield.

A memorial reception will be held 1-3 p.m., Friday, March 16, 2018, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith Family Reception Rooms, 55 South Main Street, Brewer. A committal service will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery in the spring at a date and time to be announced. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com
