BANGOR & ROME, NY – Myrtle (Martin) Poland, 83, passed away peacefully March 13, 2018, at a Bangor hospital, surrounded by family. She was born November 3, 1934, in Utica, NY, the daughter of Fredrick and Fannie (Treen) Martin.

Early in life, Myrtle attended schools in New York. She met and later married her husband, Dan Poland, on March 31, 1956, while he was stationed at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY. After being assigned to Dow Air Force Base, Myrtle and Dan moved to Maine in 1969. Myrtle was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She will be missed for her kindness and love that she had for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Alfred Martin; a daughter, Debra Kaskiw; and a brother-in-law, Eddie Kolivoski. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Dan Poland of Bangor; a daughter, Lynda Marchelletta of Etna; two sons, James Poland and wife, Donna, David Poland and wife, Serena, all of Levant; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Emma Kolivoski of Virginia, Nancy Brinck and husband, Gary of Florida, Linda Martin and husband, Chuck of Florida, and Louise Fox and husband, Marty of Rhode Island; a sister-in-law, Ester Martin of Rome, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Myrtle’s wishes, services will be private for the family. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Ohio Street, Bangor. Those who wish to remember Myrtle in a special way may make gifts in her memory to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt.
