The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of John H. Gott can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

I received some very sad news yesterday of the passing of my longtime buddy John Gott. I first met John as a 21 year old sheet metal apprentice at Bangor Roofing and Sheet metal in 1976. I easily connected with John as he was a hard worker and was fun to work with. Over the years we worked occasionally together at Bangor Roofing but we worked side jobs together for the next 15 years. John would stop by the house and declare, "We need to got to, ( fill in the place) and look at a job!" Off we would go drinking beer and laughing throughout the trip. Most times we would get sidetracked stopping at someone's house along the way and sometimes not even make it to the potential project. Three different girlfriends left me due to this type behavior. ( Not all Johns fault but he was a contributor ) Along the way I got to know his wife Patricia, who whenever I showed up at Merrimac street, always smirk and mumble in a low voice, "Oh. Here comes trouble." I also watched the Gott girls Cindy, Polly, Therisa and Christine, all grow up go off to school, get married and have children. I declared John to be "Uncle John" somewhere along the way because he was like family to me. I left Maine in 1990 but wherever I was in the world John was always with me. I still use many of lessons in life and work that John taught me. Also the same jokes he told over and over. I was lucky enough last summer to sit and visit with Uncle for a couple hours while he was in the hospital in Bangor. So with great sadness I say farewell to a friend who has never left me and will never as long as I live.
