Obituary for Douglas M. Dowling

Douglas M.  Dowling
Harrington - Douglas Dowling,72, passed away peacefully at EMMC on March 14, 2018, surrounded by family. He was born March 31, 1945, in Whitneyville. Doug graduated from Orono High School, attended Beal College, and then served his country with honor as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was an outgoing member of his community, serving the Harrington Volunteer Fire Department and the Pleasant River Ambulance Service. Doug was an active member of the VFW and American Legion for many years. He loved beano, shopping at Walmart, and playing the claw machine to win stuffed animals to give to others. Prior to his health issues he enjoyed hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed a trip to Alaska. Doug also enjoyed attending Harrington Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth Dowling. Doug is remembered and survived by his wife, Darlene Dowling, children, stepchildren, and grandchildren; sister, Shannon Hogan of Orono; brother, Charles Dowling and wife Lynn of Addison; several special nieces, nephews, uncles, and cousins. He loved to spoil all the children in his life, especially by showering them with gifts. Douglas was blessed to be reunited with his son and daughter last summer and was anxious to see them again this summer. A funeral Service with military honors will be held 12:00 noon Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the Daniel W. Merritt School, 518 Indian River Road, Addison with Rev. Daniel F. Davis, pastor, Harrington Baptist Church, officiating. There will be a viewing time from 11:00-11:45 a.m. for those who wish to pay their respects to Doug prior to the service, which will be closed casket. All are invited to share conversation and refreshments in the gymnasium immediately follow the service. Interment will be held at a later date. Those wishing to remember Douglas in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Harrington Baptist Church, C/O Gwen Grant, 4 Dorman Road, Harrington, Maine 04643.
