Julia P. McCarthy
Brewer—Julia Pauline McCarthy, 85.9, died peacefully with family by her side April 16, 2018. She was born in Bangor on April 21, 1932, the daughter of Peter Kideakos Pangakis and Marian (Peters) Pangakis.

She served customers and friends at The Pub, The Canteen, Millers Restaurant, The Ice Box, and John Geaghan’s Roundhouse (now known as Geaghan’s Pub and Craft Brewery). Julia made her last drink at age 71 on her day of retirement. Julia enjoyed playing Scat with her dear friends Judy, Michelle and Jill, shopping with her daughters and granddaughter, cheering on the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Red Wings, and anything that involved spending time with family. Her most cherished times were spent relaxing at camp on Phillips Lake. Julia treasured the wonderful friendships she made while living at the Ellen Leach Home in Brewer.

In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her husband Robert McCarthy, brother George Pangakis, sister Jane Williams, and son-in-law Jeffrey Johnson. She is survived by her children Peter Wade, Pamela Johnson, and Mary McCarthy and her husband, Mark Hathaway; step-children Sue Thompson and her son, Jimmy; Jacquie Haney and her husband, Mike and their children Sabrina, Hannah, Emily and Brandon; Thomas McCarthy and his wife, Michelle and their daughter, Madison; and Patrick McCarthy; grandchildren Jacob Johnson and his wife Rachel, Chelsea Johnson, and Evan Wade; sister Kay Wiedeman and her husband Chuck; extended family Robert and Marisa Johnson, Rachel and Jimmy Howard, Lauren and Duncan Crowley and Julia Rothermel. Julia will be deeply missed by her beloved cat Ella.

A celebration of Julia’s life will be held at Geaghan’s Pub on April 28th 4-7 pm. The family invites friends to enjoy a Red Sox game, share conversation, tell stories and toast Julia as the fun, spunky and loving woman we will always remember. Please wear your Red Sox attire.
