Alvin E. "Al"  Ingalls
Alvin 'Al' E. Ingalls, 91, passed away comfortably on April 21, 2018, surrounded by his family. Al was born on April 2, 1927, in Surry, the son of Edgar W. and Emily Hope Ingalls.
Al attended Surry Grammar School and Ellsworth High (Class of 1947), taking time out to serve his country in the U.S. Army (351st Regiment, 88th Division) in WWII (1945-1947). He graduated from University of Maine Orono (Class of 1952) with a B.S. Degree in Forestry. Al was a Maine licensed forester and land surveyor. He retired in 1986 after 34 years with Great Northern Paper in Millinocket. Al was a member of the Society of American Foresters and member of the Masonic Lyconia Lodge No. 40 A.F. & A.M. of Ellsworth.
While in College (1950), Al married his first wife, Jean Marie Ingalls. Together they raised their four children. Jean passed away in 1981 after a long illness. He later married Doris (Drew) Ingalls in 1983.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Al was predeceased by his stepsons, Michael and Jerry Drew.
Al is survived by his wife, Doris, and his sisters, Charlotte Eastman and Joy Small. Al is also survived by his children, Jeff and Melissa Ingalls, Cheryl Dunham, Peter and Louise Ingalls, and Scott and Lina Marie Ingalls, and stepsons, Robert, Timothy, Theodore, Christopher, and Francis Drew. Alvin's grandchildren include Rebecca, Amanda, Ronald, Nicholas, Christine, Shawna, Brent, Garrett, Michele, Justin, Derek, Brandon, and Brittany, and 25 great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. The Rite of Committal will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Village Cemetery, Surry. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
