Obituary for Russell Eugene Dockx

Russell E. Dockx, 86, passed away April 23, 2018 of natural causes. Russ was born January 7, 1932 in Hamden, Connecticut, son of Joseph Jr. and Madilyn (Murphy) Dockx.

Russ served in the Korean War as a combat engineer in the Army’s 5th Infantry Regiment based at the “Punchbowl” in Gangwon Province, Korea and was a active member of the 5th Infantry Regiment Association.

He attended the University of Connecticut and graduated from Boston University in 1960 with a degree in Fine Arts. Following graduation he worked as a graphic designer for Xerox, Dockx & Company with his brother Joe, eventually starting his own award winning business DockxDesign, originally based in Boston, relocating to Maine in 1990.

Russ was an avid reader of books and the New York Times. He enjoyed walking, photography, nature, listing to music, following college hockey and the Boston Bruins. He liked simple living and was a perpetual student of history, possessing an uncanny ability to recall dates and events. Russ had a kind, humble, demeanor always willing to engage in conversation regardless of the topic. He liked sailing aboard and designing promotional materials for the Maine Windjammer Angelique owned by his nephew and his nephew’s wife.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Joseph Dockx III, and his sister Phyllis (Dockx) McHenry, both of Hamden, Connecticut.

Russ is survived by a niece, Maryellen McHenry of Hanover, Maryland, a nephew, Michael McHenry, and his wife Lynne of Hope, Maine and their children Ryan and Katie Rose. His family, and soul mate Catherine Adams, of Fremont, California along with many friends will miss Russ’s company, humor, and whit.

Rest in peace Russ.

To fulfill Russ’s wishes, a private family service will be held. Please consider a memorial donation in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association or World Wildlife Organization.
