Obituary for Roger Raymond Whitehead

Roger R. Whitehead, 86, loving husband of Barbara (Smith) Whitehead, passed away peacefully at home May 18, 2018. He was born June 10, 1931, in Veazie, the son of the late Charles Whitehead and Gunilla Sargent. Roger served in the Army Infantry division during the Korean War from October 1952 to October 1955. He was very proud to serve his country and obtained the rank of Sargeant. Roger and Barbara had a farm in Hermon, following that he was a herdsman for a farm in Dover Plains, NY. He retired as a herdsman and supervisor at the University of Maine for 15 years. In his earlier years he worked at Pine Tree Tannery in Howland. Roger was a member of the Twin City Baptist Church for years, where he took pride in his role as a greeter, (the ladies loved that). All that knew Roger know that there was never a dull moment when he was around. His hobby was gardening and woodworking. Roger is survived by his loving wife Barbara of 61 years; daughters, Cheryl Bell and Cheri Sikes and significant other, Raymond Cote; grandchildren, Leslie Bell and fiancé David Hansen, Scott Bell and wife Jocie, Lisa Cozzi; four great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Albert, Norman, Shelden and Gary; sisters-in-law, Irene, Shirley, Carole, Nancy, Ginny and Rita; special cousin, Annie; sisters, Ruth, Maxine, and Mona; a brothers, Harold and Mickey; special friends and adopted mother Connie Ordoyne, Betty and Terry Costigan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Ralph; Aunt Dolly Drake; cousins Rowena, Melvin, Ronald, and Arilla: a sister Phyllis; father and mother-in-law Lewis and Helen Smith; brothers-in-law, Orrin, Ernie, Elden, Lewis and Donald; sisters-in-law, Amaryl, Glennyse and Berdena. The family would like to thank the hospice workers of CHCS New Hope Hospice. Friends may call from 6-8 PM, Tues, May 22, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Wed, May 23, at the Twin City Baptist Church, 559 N. Main Street, Brewer, with Rev. Patrick Heuveline, officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the Twin City Baptist Church parish hall following the interment.
