Limestone, Augusta, & Bangor
Norma E. Shaw,
91, passed away on May 20. She was
born on April 1, 1927, in Limestone ME, the
daughter of Herman & Susan (Bassett) Ward.
Norma attended the Limestone schools and
Westbrook Junior College. She worked at the
Frontier Bank (later known as Northern National
Bank) in Limestone. In 1950 she married Bernard
W. Shaw. She stayed at home to raise 3 children.
In 1971 she went to work as the bookkeeper for
Limestone School Lunch Program and helped her
husband on the farm. In 1987 they moved to
Augusta when Bernard was appointed as the
Commissioner of Agriculture.
Norma was a member of the Order of Eastern Star;
Past President of the National Potato Council’s
Women’s Auxiliary, President of Limestone
Women’s Jaycees, member of the Chorus Group
led by Dan Ladner, organist for Church of the
Advent, and member of local women’s quartet.
During her time in Augusta, she volunteered at the
Augusta Food Bank, Windsor Fair, Kennebec
Valley Hospital Information Station, Bread of Life
Soups Kitchen, annual ME Lung Association Bike Trek, and State Republican headquarters and
conventions. Her hobbies included music,
walking, and flower gardening.
Norma is predeceased by her parents and
husband Bernard Shaw of 67 years. She is
survived by her son Steve Shaw and his wife
Carrie; daughters Susan Nile and her husband,
Carson, and Sara Hardy and her husband, Mike;
grand-children Sam, and his wife Ivy, Matthew,
Emily and her fiancee Garrett, and Stephen;
great-grandchildren, Dylan and Devon; and sister
Thurley Briggs and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on
Friday, May 25, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church , 21
Holyoke Street in Brewer, ME. The family invites
relatives and friends to share conversation and
refreshments in the fellowship room immediately
after the service.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. on
Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Webster Cemetery, Ward Road in Limestone, ME.
