Obituary for Darryl Alden Peary Sr.

Darryl Alden Peary Sr., most recently of Corinth, ME and Zephyrhills, FL, son of Kenneth and Dorothy Peary of Woodland, ME, passed away unexpectedly on June 27, 2018. Darryl was born September 13, 1945, in Washburn, ME, and attended Washburn High School where he was the school’s first 1,000 point scorer in basketball. He continued his education at the University of Maine in Fort Kent where he received a degree in Math and Science and played soccer and basketball. He was inducted into the UMFK Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. Darryl also received a degree in Physical Education from University of Maine in Presque Isle.
Darryl began his teaching and coaching career at Forest Hills High School in Jackman in 1967 and was also inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2013. He taught and coached for 10 years at Bangor Christian Schools where he returned for a short stint in 2007 and was on the Maine Principal’s Association Basketball Committee for several years. He taught and coached at Calvary Christian Schools in Derry, NH, for 22 years where he led the school to a state soccer championship and was named coach of the year on two occasions.
In 1966, Darryl married his high school sweetheart, Melvina Cunningham Peary (Mickey), of Wade, and they recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary on June 25. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Janice and Carolyn. He is survived by his brother, Douglas, as well as his children, Darlene Peary of Salem, NH, and her children, Nicholas and Taylor, Darryl Jr, (Jay) and Laura Peary of Corinth, ME, and their children Caleb and Caitlin, and Lisa and Ryan Sullivan of Topsham, ME, and their son Jack. Darryl was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, coach, teacher and friend and had the opportunity to impact many lives. He was a man who loved God and shared his relationship with Christ as often as he could. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bangor Christian Schools while noting the Darryl Peary Sr. Memorial Endowment Fund to benefit their athletic program. A celebration of life service will be conducted at Crosspoint Church at 1476 Broadway in Bangor on Tuesday, July 3, at 10:30 AM with refreshments to follow.
