Albert "Wes"  Parlee, Sr.
ORRINGTON- Albert “Wes” Parlee, Sr. 85, passed peacefully, July 20, 2018, surrounded by family.
Wes was born April 1,1933 in Bangor, to Albert J. and Arlene (Leighton) Parlee.

Wes was a graduate of Shead Memorial High School in Eastport, The Maine State Police Academy and
The University of Maine. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a longtime member of Ralph J.
Pollard Masonic Lodge #217 and Anah Temple Shrine.

Wes’ career in law enforcement and public service spanned from working for the Maine
State Police, the Aroostook and Penobscot County Sheriffs Departments, and as a criminal
investigator for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad. In 1972 he ran for Penobscot County
Sheriff. He served in the Brewer Police Department from 1967 until “retiring” in 1992. He was
wounded in the line of duty on Christmas Day 1977, though he never spoke publicly about it
until a 1992 BDN story about it. In 1993 he joined the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department
as a court security officer and in 2011 as a civil deputy until last fall.

In 1961 he wed Dorothy Cousins and together they raised five children. They remained
married for 47 years until her death in 2009. An only child, Wes lucked into Dot’s extensive
family of eight brothers, eight sisters-in-law and their families. Wes enjoyed hunting, fishing and
camping. He and Dot built a family camp on Green Lake where they entertained friends and
relatives for over 20 years. They were fortunate to take two road trips in their RV traveling
through the U.S. and Canada into to Alaska and the Arctic Circle.

In addition to his parents and Dorothy, Wes is predeceased by his step-daughter
Carolyn, seven brothers-in-law, and eight sisters-in-law. Surviving are his step-son William, son
Burt, daughter Louise, daughter Kathleen, granddaughter Jennifer and husband Scott,
grandson James, four great grandchildren, cousins Kenneth Moholland and Bob Parlee,
brother in-law Carroll Cousins and many nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Brookings-Smith,
133 Center Street Bangor, with Rev. Susan Davenport, officiating. The family invites relatives
and friends to share conversation and refreshments immediately following. Interment to be held in Perry, Maine at a later date. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.Brookings-Smith.com.
