Obituary for Arthur M. Jones Jr.

Arthur M. Jones Jr.
Arthur M. Jones Jr. was born on July 21, 1937 and passed away on August 27, 2018 at the age of 81 at Winterberry Heights in Bangor, Maine where he had called home for the past three years. He fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was surrounded by his son and daughter, Beacon Hospice and his Loving Touch Companions.

He is survived by a daughter, Melanie Stewart and her husband Paul of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and a son, Jeffrey A. Jones and his wife Melinda of Hampden, Maine. Arthur leaves behind five very special grandchildren; Acadia Stewart, Zachary Stewart, Gannon Stewart, Ryleigh Jones and Jarrett Jones. He is also survived by two brothers, Richard Jones of Oviedo, Florida and Bill Jones of Holden, Massachusetts.
Arthur took pride in all his grandchildren and enjoyed attending their events, particularly dance recitals and ball games. He is also survived by special friends Roger and Mary Rollins of Lyman, Maine.

Arthur served four years in the United States Air Force and enjoyed sharing stories of places he visited. He was a self-employed insurance agent for over forty years, primarily selling cancer insurance as a representative for AFLAC. He knew “The County” by heart and treated his clients with the utmost care and respect. He was very proud of his work ethic and he loved talking to everybody about many things, especially “politics“. He always had a story to tell after being a travelling salesman and meeting so many wonderful, hardworking people throughout his career.

Arthur worked hard while helping to raise his family. Together they enjoyed many family trips to various locations including Walt Disney World and Epcot Center in Florida, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and regular camping trips to Bar Harbor Campground. Arthur loved mowing the lawn, visiting the post office almost daily, and always having a clean, well serviced car. He always liked talking about his first car, a Studebaker, that he often wished he had never gotten rid of. He was also a fan of both NASCAR and local stock car racing.

The family would like to send a sincere thank you to all of the staff at Winterberry Heights, especially Kelley and Janelle for the wonderful care Arthur received up until the very end. A special thank you to Nicole M. who was integral in getting Arthur acclimated and settled into assisted living. We also thank all of the staff from Loving Touch in Bangor for providing companionship and comfort for Arthur and his family. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to Beacon Hospice, especially Lowanda and Allison, for the attentive care and compassion he received up until his passing.

A graveside memorial service is scheduled for Saturday September 8 at 1pm at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Bangor, Maine with a reception to immediately follow from 2pm to 4pm at the Sea Dog Brewing Company on Railroad Street in Bangor, Maine. All are invited to attend.

Gifts may be made in Arthurs Remembrance to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bangor, 83 Washington Street, Bangor, Maine 04401 or online at www.habitatbangor.org or to Beacon Hospice, 289 State Street, Suite B, Bangor, Maine 04401 or at www.amedisys.com/beacon.
