Merritt “Sonny” Hayden, Sr.
Brewer, FL., Hampden
Merritt L. “Sonny” Hayden, Sr., 81, died peacefully September 18, 2018 at Orono Commons. He was born February 7, 1937 in Bangor, son of Beulah and Merritt Joseph Hayden.
Merritt was the father of two sons. He served in the naval reserves and worked at Eastern Fine Paper Company until it closed. His fascination and knowledge about World War I and II was amazing. His son Rocky referred to him as a walking encyclopedia. He spent numerous years building historical ships and took extreme pride in his work. This became his lifetime hobby and his talents were undeniable.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his second wife, Joyce and recently a son, Timothy Hayden.
He is survived by his son, Merritt “Rocky” and wife Pat of Hermon; a granddaughter, Cariann and Jason of Bangor, a grandson Merritt “Duke” and Tammy of Winslow.
Sonny will be remembered for his great talents and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday September 22, 2018 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave. Hampden. The Rite of Committal will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.

A GIFT
Anguished consumed
to outermost limits
Blinded to a wondrous gift-
Bestowed upon me
Suddenly, our Lord-
Opened these eyes
To awareness of-
Tremendous talent of a man
One named Sonny-
Loved, and admired by many
Our time together cur short-
But, truly treasured
Grateful for the gift-
Held within my heart
Love does conquer all-
Surviving hereafter
Rest in peace Sonny-
Beside your son Timothy
With all our love, Pat &Rocky and your grandchildren
