WINTERPORT- Jean (Hawes) Crossman Truitt, 84, passed away peacefully August 30, 2018. She was born September 12, 1933, in Belfast, the daughter of James R. and Armeda V. (Sawyer) Hawes.

Jean was a devoted wife, loving mother and giving friend. During her life she enjoyed walking, laughter, music, horseback riding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and just plain having fun. She loved to go to Florida in the winter, and to sit in her gazebo in Maine in the summer. Jean will be forever loved and missed by her family and friends.

Jean is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Chester “Bud” Truitt; her five children, Stanley “Red” Crossman and his wife, Rhea, Barbara Crossman Gallant, Gary Crossman and his wife, Brenda, Irene Truitt, and John Truitt; nine grandchildren, Tina Farris, Shawn Crossman, Michelle Quimby (predeceased,) Joseph Gallant III, Rachel Knipping, Melissa LePage, Jeremy Quimby, Adam Gallant, Lesley Fitts. She was blessed with 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many special friends, including Louise Bragg (predeceased), Charlene Bjorn, Betty Williams, and Barbara Scott.

Relatives and friends are invited to a remembrance of Jean’s life 4-6 p.m., Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. Those who wish to remember Jean in a special way may make gifts in her memory to Bangor Nursing and Rehab Center, 103 Texas Avenue, Bangor, ME, 04401.
