Obituary for John H. Dunning

John H. Dunning
Bangor
John H. Dunning passed away on September 5, 2018 after a short illness. Born September 10, 1936 in Bangor, the son of Herbert & Alma (McLeod) Dunning.
John graduated from Bangor High School in 1955. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. John worked in revaluation in the New England area & New York state, as the Hermon town Assessor and CEO, and as a real estate appraiser for the FHA & JF Singleton, Co.
He was married for 53 ½ years to Elizabeth “Beth” (Largay) Dunning. She was his constant companion and devoted partner in all that life brought them. His work took them to four states and several towns. After many years away, they settled back in their beloved Maine. They enjoyed every inch of the State from the coast to the mountains and the small towns in between. It was not unheard of for them to travel a couple of hours, hitting every scenic view along the way, for a good breakfast or haddock dinner.
John loved the outdoors, especially during hunting season. He volunteered for 15 years as a driver for Penquis CAP/Lynx, receiving the President’s Volunteer Award yearly. He loved golf and after suffering a stroke, played with one arm for over 20 years. Nothing made his smile brighter than spending time with his grandchildren, friends and family.
John was pre-deceased by his parents, brother Robert and sister-in-law Sandra.
Surviving are his wife Beth, children David & wife Julie of Orrington, Kathryn & husband John of South Portland, Timothy & his wife Sheila of Clinton, CT, grandchildren Matthew, Michael, Samantha, Erin, & Emerson; brother George & wife Cindy of Missouri, brothers-in-law, Tom (Betty-Jo) Largay, John (Pat B.) Largay, sister-in-law Lynda (James) Cratty, several nieces & nephews, and a special cousin, Cony (Barbilyn) Church.
