Obituary for Carolyn Eileen Brown (Goodwin)

Carolyn E. Brown, 97, passed away on September 7, 2018, at a healthcare facility in Freeport, Maine. She was born in Levant, Maine, on April 30, 1921, to Ervin R. and Eleanor (Emerson) Goodwin. Carolyn attended Levant schools. She was a giving and caring person who enjoyed helping her community. Carolyn was a talented seamstress, quilter, and knitter, and was a member of a local charitable sewing guild. She liked to knit mittens for children in the community, sew pillowcases for the Homeless Shelter, and create covers for cages at the Humane Society. She worked at the Bangor City Hospital throughout her life; first, as an employee and later, as a volunteer. Carolyn’s heart was in her work at the hospital. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and her many wonderful friends. She is survived by a daughter, Carol Haskell, of Bowdoinham; a dear brother, Carlton Goodwin and wife, Shirley, and family of Watertown, NY; three grandchildren, Andrew Haskell and wife, Jill, of Gardiner, Matthew Haskell and partner, Nicole Jakubowski, of Topsham, John Haskell and wife, Kim Pacelli, of Topsham; and two great grandchildren, Jocelyn and Caitlyn. Carolyn was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold, in 1996, and by a brother, Lyle Goodwin. Friends may gather with the family on Friday, September 14th at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor, where a gathering will begin at 9:00 A.M. and funeral services will begin at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Bangor. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Avenue, Bangor, ME 04401.
