Thomas S. Paine, 78, passed away September 19, 2018 at his home. He was the second born son of Anne H. (Hamilton) Paine and Arnold Paine. Born on January 11, 1940 in New Bedford, MA. He was raised in Massachusetts and educated at Milton Academy and Middlebury College.
After serving as an officer in the U.S. Army Signal Corp he began a career associated with the pulp and paper industry, having worked for S.D. Warren, Scott Graphics International (Belgium), Delta Chemicals and Penford Products Companies.
Tom was active in civic and industry organizations. He served for eight years on the Falmouth School Board, a board member and volunteer at the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter and many years with the University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation and the Northeast Division of the Paper Industry Management Association.
Tom loved Northern New England and the out of doors be it fly fishing with his father on remote ponds of New Hampshire and Maine or sailing the Coast of Maine. He took particular pleasure being with family and friends at his family home in Prospect Harbor, ME.
Tom was a member of All Souls Congregational Church serving on various boards and committees including deacons. In 2014 Tom and his wife Pamela were honored with the church’s “ The Mandatum Dignitatis Award, ” recognizing their years of Christian service to church and community. Tom was predeceased by his parents and older brother John.
He is survived by his younger brother Dana T. Paine and wife Gaylyne; his dear wife Pamela Coffey-Paine; daughter Laura P. Beebe and husband Scott; son Prescott H. Paine; daughter Phoebe P. Gause and husband John; step-son J. Bradford Coffey and wife Elizabeth; and step-daughter Cara Coffey- Roope; ten grandchildren Eliza and Caleb Beebe, Cedar Conly, Daniel and Thomas Gause, Madeleine, Gabriel and Tobias Coffey and Connor and Gabriella Roope.
A service of Remembrance will be held 10:30 am Monday September 24, 2018 at All Souls Congregational Church, 10 Broadway, Bangor, with the Rev. Chad L. Poland, Pastor and Teacher and the Rev. Renee U. Garrett, Minister of Christian Nurture, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the vestry following the service.
