BREWER – Cecil D. Wilson, Sr., 90, husband of the late Pauline ”Polly” (Perry) Wilson died peacefully October 13, 2018 in Brewer. He was born January 7, 1928, in Calais, the son of Archie and Pearl (Hill) Wilson.

Cecil graduated from Calais Academy and Husson College with a B.S. Degree in Accounting. He served in World War II as a Sergeant in Co. A 65th Combat Engineer Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post #12 of Bangor and a Life Member of Brewer V.F.W. Post #4917. Cecil retired from the Bangor Daily News as Controller and Asst. Treasurer after 35 years of service. After retirement, he worked for the City of Brewer Police Department as part-time Receptionist. His business memberships were with the National Association of Accountants and the International Newspaper Financial Executives. He was an active member of the Bangor (Noon) Kiwanis Club having been President in 1983 and 2002, Lt. Governor for Division 3 in1996. In 1999 he shared Kiwanian of the Year Award with his mentor, Artie Eaton, Jr. He was granted Life Membership in Kiwanis International in 1997. Cecil was a member of the Ralph J. Pollard Lodge #217 A.F. & A.M. of Orrington, Anah Shriners Life Member of the 2nd section and member of the Anah Shriners Chanters. He held membership in the North American Hunting Club and was a member of Sportsmen’s Alliance of Maine. He was a member of the East Orrington Congregational Church and his beloved choir.

Cecil is survived by two children, son and daughter-in-law, Dexter and Joan Wilson of Corinth, daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Earl Hickman of Unity; five grandchildren, Michael Wilson and his wife, Emmi, of Palm Harbor, FL, Michelle Gillen of Venice, FL, David Payne and his wife, Candace, of Eddington, Christy Fast of Ft. Wayne, IN; twelve great grandchildren, Nicholas Wilson and his wife, Samantha, Jacob Wilson, Alexa Peters. Zachary Gillen, Lauren, Christopher and Carol Lynn Payne, Lorelai Fast, Tony Omo, Violeta Rodriguez, Joaquine Padilla and J.J. Rangel. He was predeceased by a grandson, Tony Hickman. The family would like to thank the staff of the Woodlands Assisted Living Facility of Brewer for their care and compassion during Cecil’s stay.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5 to 7pm Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main Street, Brewer. Interment will be private. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
