Mary Ruth (Shannon) Conley, 87, passed away October 21, 2018. She was born in Greenbush, December 27, 1930, a daughter of Clarence D. and Grace B. (Spruce) Shannon Sr. She was a graduate of both Wytopitlock grammar school and high school, class of 1948. Mary Ruth attended the University of Maine, Orono, and Husson College, Bangor where she earned a BA and a M.Ed. from the University of Montana in Missoula.
Mary Ruth was a 25 year member of the Montana Education a lifetime member of the National Education Association, a member of Phi Rho Zeta and Delta Kappa Gamma International.
She worked for the US Navy in Washington, DC on Adak in the Aleutian Islands, the Forest Service in Missoula and as a teacher for 25 years at Hellgate Elementary School.
In Missoula she was active in her church community and educational circles serving in many volunteer areas including tutoring in adult basic education and grade schools in the area.
On August 23, 1952 she married John J. Conley at the Naval Air Station in Washington, DC. They lived in various parts of the world during John’s Navy career.
Mary Ruth was predeceased by her husband in 2000, her brothers C. Desmond Jr., Earl, John and Paul; her sister Irene and niece Cathy Conley Barden.
Surviving are four daughters M. Kathleen “Kate” Conley of Orrington, Colleen Navarro and her husband Jerry of Clifton, Maureen “Mickie” Conley of Washington, and Eileen Moore and her husband Dan of Orrington; grandchildren Kevin Johnson of Missoula, MT, Cory Moore of Somerville, MA. and Jacob Moore and his wife Sarah and their son Ezekiel all of Brewer; sisters Julia Turner of Bangor, Barbara Farnham and husband David of FL., sisiter-in-law Alice Shannon of Bangor; many nieces and nephews including Lynn Conley-Parkinson, Jack Conley all of Idaho and Tim Conley of Bolivia, South America.
Private burial will be in Missoula, MT. beside her husband.
