Obituary for Ann D. Kearns (Chapman)

Ann D. Kearns (Chapman)
Ann D. (Chapman) Kearns, 81, passed away December 29, 2017 at a Bangor hospital surrounded by family. She was born in Bangor, November 19, 1936 daughter of George and Mary (Cleaves) Chapman. Surviving are four children, Cyndy Murphy and husband Patrick of Brewer, Sandra Kearns-Rogers and husband Greg, of Bangor, Lori Hall and husband Warren of Brewer, James L. Kearns, Jr. of Brewer; eight grandchildren Omekia Legassie, Brittany Ewer, Johnna Daugherty, John Ambrose, II, Kassandra Fish, Shayne Rogers, Anmarie Reed, Amber Reed and Tyler Kearns; eleven great grandchildren, Kodi and Cameron Legassie, Brea Smickle, Ella and Brysin Davis, Maddox Ewer, Kaydence, Ashlyn, Avangeline, and Knox Fish, Autumn Martin; one
special sister Faye DePhillipo of Bangor. Several nieces and nephews including a special nephew Ed Vanidestine, Jr. Growing up Ann was part of a large family, with 11 brothers and sisters and 13 step siblings. Her generous spirit let everyone know that they were cared for and loved; she was the heart of the family. This appreciation was also shared with Jim Kearns, the love of her life. She created many “Happy Days” and memories on Fields Pond. Those moments are cherished by all who visited. Some of Ann’s family’s favorite memories of her, were her love of fashion, traveling, music and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had wisdom beyond her years. Being a New England girl she loved the Boston Red Sox and Dunkin Donuts coffee. Ann was a survivor of breast cancer and a debilitating stroke. These complications did not take the life out of her. She was always up to challenge anyone to a game of Skip-Bo, finish a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle and loved to hear what was new with everyone that came to visit, she knew how to keep a secret. She would do her “Jane Fonda” exercises and would never refuse a bonfire with family. Her infectious laugh, “air kisses” at the end of every phone call and “NUN” will be remembered.
She was predeceased by her husband James L. Kearns, Sr. a grandson Jesse Rogers and several brothers and sisters. A Funeral Mass will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018 at St. Paul the
Apostle Parish, St. John’s Catholic Church, York St., Bangor. The Rite of Committal will be held in the spring at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center St., Bangor, 5 to 7 P.M. Friday,
January 5, 2018. The family asks that those wishing to remember her in a special way, make a donation in her name to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
