Obituary

Harold “Harry” C. Flynn, Sr., 76, died after a short battle with Melanoma March 30, 2019 at Northern Lights Eastern Maine Medical Center following a heroic 8 year survival of double lung transplant surgery. He was born August 25, 1942 in Jersey City, NJ, the son of Harold J. and Mary Barbara (Ries) Flynn.

Harry left high school to join the U.S. Air Force in 1960, and after being stationed at Loring A.F.B. in Limestone, met and married the love of his life, Ruth Swenson, in 1962 in Caribou. They recently celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary. While proudly serving as an active-duty veteran for 20 years in the USAF, then another 10 years in Civil Service as a safety professional, Harry obtained his GED, continued on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and a Master’s Degree from Husson University. He finished his academic career as a professor of Business Administration at Husson University.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Catherine. Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Swenson) Flynn; his beloved sons, Damon R. Flynn of Yarmouth, Maine, and Harold C. Flynn, Jr., his wife, Treva, of Cardiff, California; granddaughter, Ashley Flynn and her husband, Eric Romeo of Boston; and special niece, Jacqueline Amato and her husband, Tony of Princeton, NJ; special friends, Laurie (Burns) Flynn, and her children, Jordan and Djaylan Burns.

Interment with military honors will be private for the family. Those who wish to remember Harry in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Disabled American Veterans, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com

I am so sorry to hear of Harry's passing. I enjoyed Harry when we all bowled together at Heritage. And I was so thrilled when his double lung transplant was successful. It was so good to see you both last summer, though I wish it had been under better circumstances. It will be difficult, so if you feel the need to talk just give me a call. I'll be thinking of you.

Ruth, Damon, & Harold Jr. Paula & I send our deepest sympathy to you and your entire family upon the loss of Harry. There is a lonesomeness after after the death of one's Father & Husband that few of us, unless we have experienced it ourselfs can understand its grief. Harry & I worked closely as I was a firefighter at Loring. But most of all Harry & I were friends and shared moments together as we were neighboors also, as a coach for little league and having the privilage of coaching Damon through his little league experience . Our prayers are with your family during this difficult time. Paul & Paula Barnes

I was so sorry to read of Harry’s passing. I have such fond memories of your whole family from your Caribou days and, of course, Woolworths. May your memories warm your heart forever. You are all in my thoughts and prayers as you face the final event of one’s life. May God bless you all. Kathy Lyons Clapp
