WINTERPORT- Barbara “Barbie” Marie (Sawyer) Worcester, 59, passed away at her Winterport home, May 11, 2020, after an extended battle with cancer. Barbie was born in Bangor, August 20, 1960, the daughter of Larry Sawyer and Winnifred Peters.
Barbie was an extremely dedicated worker having spent most of her working life
as a medical laboratory technician at Eastern Maine Medical Center. She was equally dedicated in her home life especially gardening and canning. One of her
daughter’s earliest childhood memories was of her mother hanging clothes on the line to dry. Barbie continued this old-fashioned habit until she was physically unable to do so. Despite her lack of enthusiasm for cooking, she was famous for her homemade garlic pickles and rhubarb and pumpkin pies.
Barbie was fun loving, witty, and had an insatiable sweet tooth. She could always
be counted on for crude jokes and miniature Hershey bars if you were feeling
Barbie will be remembered by her husband, Dwight; daughter, Megan Vermeulen
and husband, Carl of Pennsylvania; son, Robert Royal III and wife, Shelie of Michigan; mother, Winifred Peters of Bangor; father, Larry Sawyer and stepmother, Barbara of Winterport; brothers, Larry “Sonny” Sawyer Jr. and wife, Shawna of Winterport; Peter Sawyer and wife, Sabina of Virginia; sisters, Bonnie Sawyer of Biddeford; Debra Brown of Hermon; and Sherri Sawyer of Hudson; three grandchildren, Andrew and Kendra Royal and Dominic Vermeulen, whom she adored; step siblings, Julia Haskell of Winterport; Diana LeBlanc of Fayetteville and Joseph Haskell of Carmel; as well as several nephews, nieces, cousins, and many close friends.
