Alaire Chadel Sedgwick, III, passed away August 17, 2019. He was born in Wissinoming, a section of Philadelphia, on September 8, 1920 son of Margaret (Cook) Sedgwick, and Alaire Chedell Sedgwick, II. He was one of four children, sisters Dorrit and Muriel, now deceased and brother, Donald of Clermont, FL.
He graduated from Frankford High School in Philadelphia.
During World War Two he served in the Medical Department of the United States Army in the Professional Services Division of the Chief Surgeons’ office, European Theater of Operations in England and France. He rose to the rank of Tech Sergeant.
After his honorable discharge He entered Moody Bible Institute in Chicago to study for the ministry. During his senior year he served as student-pastor of a church on the south side of Chicago. After graduation he continued to serve as full time Pastor.
It was at Moody where he met his wife, Evelyn Joy Wright of Bluefield, West Virginia. They were married the day after his graduation in the church he pastored.
Al served as a Christian Education Consultant for Scripture Press Publications of Chicago and later was called to pastor Bethlehem Baptist Church, Springfield, MA where he served for 20 years. Following that he served as Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, ME for 13 years teaching the scriptures as a faithful servant of Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his younger brother, Donald Sedgwick and his wife Ruth, Clermont, FL, two sons, Kevin Sedgwick and his wife Sarah, Holden, ME and Mark Sedgwick and his wife Shahira, Biloxi, MS, two grandsons Matthew Sedgwick, Biloxi, MS and Jacob Sedgwick, Brewer, ME, two granddaughters, Angela Allen and her husband Craig, Brewer, ME and Rebecca Velissariou and her husband Kosta, Fuquay Varina, NC and two great grandsons Ezra Allen, Brewer, ME and Tony Velissariou, Fuquay Varina, NC.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 5 -7 pm Friday September 6, 2019 at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A funeral service will be held 10 am. Saturday September 7, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church, 61
State St., Brewer. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the fellowship hall following the service. Private interment will be in the Clark’s Hill Cemetery, Stetson.
