Alan Wayne Hodgdon, 63, passed away peacefully November 24, 2019, at his home in Bar Harbor, surrounded by his loving family that cared for him. He was born May 18, 1956, in Bangor the son of George A. and Vera M. (Rosemeier) Hodgdon.
Alan enjoyed working at the MDI workshop before his retirement, attending daily programs at the MDI Center, Bar Harbor and Downeast Horizon Center, Ellsworth. He loved collecting crayons, making friends, bowling, Special Olympics, “I Love Lucy” tapes and the old black and white westerns. Alan’s loving and gentle spirit will be missed by many.
A very special Thank You to Alan’s Downeast Horizon Family who provided outstanding support for more than thirty years. Allowing Alan to be as independent as possible, providing respect, compassion and friendship daily in a safe environment. Thank you to Beacon Hospice for your support in the last days of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother C. Ronald Hodgdon. He is survived by a brother, Warren Hodgdon and wife Linda of San Diego, CA; eight nieces and nephews, Penny Goodie and husband Joe of Levant, David Hodgdon and wife Beth of Corinth, Ronda Kay of Scarborough, Arthur Hodgdon and wife Donna of Levant, Marion Arnold and husband Glen of Kenduskeag, Theresa Monahan and husband Peter of Broadlands, VA, Christopher Hodgdon of San Diego, CA, Paul Hodgdon and wife Angela of La Mesa, CA; cousins, Carolyn Sargent of Naples, FL, Jon Rosemeier of Blue Hill, and Scott and Elizabeth Rosemeier of Blue Hill; thirteen grand nieces and nephews, and his Downeast Horizons family.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 AM, Friday, December 6, 2019, at the MDI Center. A graveside service will be announced in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Downeast Horizons Programs and Activities, 77 Union Street, Ellsworth, ME 04605.
