Glenburn - Alan Jenkins, of Glenburn, finally cashed in his chips, after a long valiant battle with cancer, leaving behind a trail of laughter, good times, and a slight overabundance of birdseed on January 18, 2025. Born on December 1, 1946, in Bangor, to Harvey L. Jenkins and Marie F. (Dowling) Jenkins, who along with his oldest brother, Harvey Jenkins, predeceased Alan.
Alan, a proud graduate of "Old Bangor High" (class of '64, two years early, because who has time to waste), possessed the uncanny ability to make friends with his infectious smile. Alan was a "weekend warrior" in the Army Reserves. His ability to make friends served him well in his various careers, which included charming guests in hotel operations, bravely venturing into the world of entrepreneurship with his own business, and ensuring that Central and Northern Maine were never short on hospitality supplies.
For many years, the patrons of the Brewer Eagles Club knew Alan as the weekend bartender who could mix a drink and a good story with equal skill. Even retirement couldn't slow him down; he spent over 20 years at L.L. Bean, probably offering unsolicited (but always welcome) advice on the best way to break in a pair of Bean Boots.
Alan had a serious case of wanderlust, with a particular fondness for amusement parks (the faster the roller coaster, the better). He also enjoyed a good card game, a spirited board game session, and any excuse to gather with his beloved family and friends. He may not have always won, but he had fun 100% of the time. He was a culinary wizard, a devoted bird enthusiast (hence the birdseed), and an admirer of Pushaw Lake.
Alan is survived by his partner in crime of 40 years, partner in travel, and all-around partner in life, Jim Belanger, whose Saturday mornings will never be quite as fun. He also leaves behind his middle brother, David Jenkins of Corinth; his two children, Kimberly Jenkins of Orland, and her partner, Michael, and Mark Jenkins of Dixmont, and his wife, Denise; his grandchildren, Brittany, Tyler, Courtney, Ashley, and Cade; and his great-granddaughter, Elsie. He will be fondly remembered by his many extended family members, including Pat, Carol, Debbie, Mary, Frank, Cody, Kristen, Eric, Matt, Brett, Jackson, (woot, woot, woot), Shelby, Mike, Nick, Matt, Zack, Paula and Betty. His nieces and nephew, Lisa, Carrie, and Todd, and their children, Halle, Josie, Amaiah, and Brooklyn, will miss his mischievous grin. A nod of appreciation goes to Katherine (Smart) Page, mother to Kim and Mark. Honoring a promise, a special shout-out to Linda O'Clair. The family extends a heartfelt "thank you" to the CHCS Hospice Team, Meghan and Char (Guay), for their unwavering support and good humor during a challenging time.
A celebration of Alan's wonderful life, along with his interment will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, please consider feeding the birds in his honor ... or maybe just go ride a roller coaster. He'd like that. Condolences to the family may be expressed at BrookingsSmith.com.
