Alan R. Wilcox, 79, passed away peacefully June 21st, 2023. He was born January 21st, 1944, in Columbia, SC, the son of Vaughn L. and Phyllis (Wren) Wilcox.
Alan graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School and then joined the US Army, moving onto to continue his education at Norwich Military College in Vermont. He then came home and continued his education at the University of Maine to achieve his Bachelors, Masters, and Certificate of Advance Study in Education. He went on to teach at Old Town High School for 30 plus years as well as coaching cross country. Alan also taught Adult Education at night as well as classes as Unity College. He married his high school sweetheart, Linda F. Perkins, in 1966, they spent 57 years together. They enjoyed camping together as well as traveling. Going on to travel to Ireland, England, and multiple trips across every state in the continental United States.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Wilcox; son, Scott Wilcox and wife, Jill; grandsons, Collin and Connor Wilcox; and sisters, Carol McMahon and Linda Byer. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Alan Wilcox Jr.
Relatives and friends and welcome to call 4-7PM, Wednesday, June 28th, 2023, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM, Thursday, June 29th, 2023 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio Street, Bangor, with a reception following at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor. A private burial will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Those who wish to remember Alan in a special way may make donations to the Old Town Animal Orphanage, P.O.
