Albert Baranek

March 19, 1948 — May 15, 2020

BANGOR- Albert “Butch” Oliver Baranek, 72, died May 15, 2020, after a courageous battle with lung cancer at a Bangor Hospital. Butch was born March 19, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of William Baranek and Margaret (Kilroy) Baranek.

He graduated from Roxborough High School in 1965, after which he joined the Air Force where he served for 20 years. Butch married Jocelyne Marie Rivard in 1971, they were married for over 40 years. He received an Associates Degree in Machine Tool after he left the Air Force. After his military career, he was a machinist for many years at General Electric, retiring in 2012 to care for his wife while she battled cancer. After the passing of his wife, Butch worked at Hollywood Casino as a security guard which he enjoyed immensely and was frequently recognized for his excellent work ethic. He was loved by many, including coworkers and patrons.

Butch was an avid golfer since his teenage years, he enjoyed both watching and playing the game of golf. He was also a huge fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and was very proud of this fact. He had no shame in displaying an Eagles flag on his front porch or to plaster Eagles stickers all over his vehicle. He always enjoyed the attention this would bring him in Patriots nation. Butch cherished his time with Jo at Wells Beach, loved spending time with family at the shore and more recently trips to Vegas with his daughters. Butch will always be remembered as a kind hearted, fun loving soul; although he was an “Ole Guy,” he was always up for a good time.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Jocelyne (Rivard) Baranek.

Butch is survived by his daughters, Claudine Allen and her husband, Michael Allen, of Bangor, Michele Thibodeau and her husband, Corey Thibodeau, of Bellingham, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Brodie and Isabella; three brothers, Wiliam Baranek, of South Carolina, Robert Baranek, of Massachusetts, and Kenny Baranek, of Washington; two sisters, Brenda Letire, of Philadelphia, and Tina Ciarrocchi, of Kansas.

The family would like to say a special thank you to his private caregivers and Beacon Hospice Care, who were so helpful throughout a very difficult and challenging time.

There will be private graveside service for the immediate family. A celebration of his life will be planned for a later date. Those who wish to remember Butch in a special way make gifts in memory to Beacon Hospice, 1026 Stillwater Ave Bangor, 04401.
