Alex Harris

January 1, 1974 — December 27, 2015

FRANKLIN and BANGOR – Alex ‘Cuffah” Harris, 41, passed away peacefully surrounded by family December 27, 2015 at a Bangor hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1974 in Bath, the son of Jack and Carol (Whalen) Merrill.

Alex married his best friend from High School, Michelle (Bickford) Harris in 2011. He was a fisherman and he favored being the Stern Man. Alex was an asset to have on any fishing vessel. His favorite hobby was playing with his grandchildren, Russell, Lizzy and Benjamin. He also enjoyed riding ATV’s, cracking jokes, writing beautiful poetry and was often seen hand in hand with his wife Michelle reading James Patterson. Alex was known for his love of Mountain Dew and Harley’s and his endless tattoos, each with their own story. He was an extremely hard worker on and off the water. Alex had a sense of humor that instantly made him the center of attention everywhere he went. The love he and Michelle shared was straight out of a fairy tale romance, and he was no stranger to shouting it from the roof tops.

Alex was predeceased by his father-in-law, Russell Bickford, a very special cousin, Benji Abbott, a very special uncle, “Super” Roy Whalen and 20 aunts and uncles. In addition to his mother, Carol Merrill of Sullivan, and his father, Jack Merrill and his wife, Mayota of Harpswell, Alex is survived by the love of his life, Michelle Harris of Bangor; their daughter, Toni Moore and her fiancé, Kyle Harriman of Bangor; two sons, Josh Moore and his fiancée, Kali Grindle of Old Town and Cameron Moore of Ellsworth; three grandchildren, Russell, Lizzy and Benjamin; his sister, Christina Gray and her husband, Norman of Bar Harbor; his brother, Mike Harris of Ellsworth; very special cousin, Roy Whalen; Uncle, Rick Sandstrom; very close friend, Stevie Atherton and countless nieces, nephews, other friends and extended family.

In keeping with Alex’s wishes, services will be private for the family. A memorial tribute to honor his life will be held later, date and time to be announced. Those who wish to remember Alex in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, 263 Main Street, Bangor, ME 04401. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
