Alfred Frawley

Bangor – Alfred C. Frawley Jr. passed away on April 30th with his family at his side following a lengthy illness. He was born September 3rd 1926, in Bangor, the son of Alfred C. Frawley Sr. and Ellen (Curley) Frawley.

Al was an active member of St. Mary’s Parish in Bangor. He was educated in the Bangor school system, graduating from Bangor High School, class of 1944. He graduated from Officer Training at the Maine Maritime Academy in 1946 and served in the Merchant Marine following World War II, later graduating from Fordham University College of Pharmacy in 1950.

Al married his wife Mary Jacquelyn (Doherty) Frawley on September 30th 1950. They lived for many years on Lincoln Street in Bangor and, in recent years, at the Boyd Place.

He was a former member of the Bangor Chamber of Commerce, The Downtown Business Bureau, The Bangor J.C.’s, Westside Little League, The Lions Club, and Penobscot Valley Country Club. Al was a member of Maine State Golf Association and Eastern Maine Senior Golf Association where he served as Secretary, Treasurer and President. He owned and operated Frawley Pharmacy, and was also employed at Robinson & Kenny and Dead River Oil.

An avid golfer, Al caddied, played and was a member of Meadowbrook Country Club, Bangor, Lucerne Country Club, Lucerne, Penobscot Valley Country Club, Orono and Turnbull Bay, New Smyrna Beach Florida. Prior to his illness he had the pleasure of playing Penobscot Valley for 74 consecutive years where he also had two Hole-in-Ones.

In addition to his wife, Jackie, Al is survived by his son Alfred C. Frawley III and wife Polly Haight Frawley; son Andrew J. Frawley and wife Julianne; grandsons Alfred C. Frawley IV, Timothy Frawley and Jon Patrick Frawley; granddaughters Samantha Frawley and Erica Frawley; cousins John & Lorraine Frawley and Ann Bennett, as well as several grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Deborah Ann Baker.

Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-6p.m. Sunday May 3rd at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A funeral mass will be held 11a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Boyd Place, 21 Boyd St. Bangor, following the funeral mass.
