BANGOR – Alice Mae (Mailman) Shannon, 95, passed away, surrounded by her family, December 21, 2021, at her home in Bangor. She was born April 23, 1926, in Danforth, the daughter of George and Doris (Lee) Mailman.
Alice graduated from Danforth High School, Class of 1944. Shortly after graduation, she married Paul Shannon October 11, 1944. They raised seven children before Paul’s passing in 2013. She also worked at J.J. Nissan Bakery, Osteopathic, and St. Joseph’s Hospital, and for Dr. Crowther, Dr. Krouse, and Dr. Tomlinson. She volunteered at the Attic, Cole’s Transportation Museum, St. Joseph’s gift shop and United Way. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sight-seeing. Alice was a wise, personable, out-going, warm, welcoming to many, caring and sharing woman. Alice’s restaurant was always open. Reading was her passion.
In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was predeceased by her son, Michael; brothers, Arthur, Richard; and daughter-in-law, Gwen. She is survived by her children, Anthony, of Wilmington, Delaware, Rosemary and her husband, David, of Holden, Thomas and his wife, Gale, of Lewiston, Cecelia Hamblin and her husband, Fran, of East Nassau, New York, Rebecca Hagstrom and her husband, Neal, of Milford, Juliette Crosby, of Wareham, Massachusetts; former son-in-law, John Crosby, of Marion, Massachusetts; daughter-in-law, Lynn Shannon, of Raceland, Kentucky; sisters-in-law, Barbara Farnham, of Gulfport, Florida, and Julia Turner, of Bangor; nineteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 30, 2021, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 217 York St., Bangor, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
