ALISON MAE GOULD
HAMPDEN
HAMPDEN - On the evening of December 19, 2022, our beloved Mumma, Alison Mae (Wentworth) Gould, joined her husband, Charlie in Heaven on what would have been their 71st Wedding Anniversary month. Sally, as she was fondly known, was born October 26, 1933, on a farm in Morrill, Maine, the daughter of Manus R. and Christie R. (Mayberry) Wentworth.
Sally had a very large extended family and grew up in Morrill and eventually the family moved from Morrill to Hampden. She graduated from the historic Hampden Academy, where she met her high school sweetheart, Charlie. They got married and stayed local, settling in Hampden and raised four children in a home that they built themselves. In later years they built a camp on Schoodic Lake where many summers were spent and fun, family memories were made. Sally worked for many years as an office manager for Lee Souweine and she retired from that position. Sally’s true lifework though was her children, she spent her years as a homemaker known for her cooking and baking, which ensured that her children along with plenty of friends were there to share her home cooked items. She loved her children dearly and always made sure they had what they needed. Sally was a community minded leader. She was an integral part of Meals for Me in Hampden, helping deliver meals to people at their homes. Sally spent many years involved with the VFW ladies auxiliary in Hampden and served as president in past years. She received a prestigious honor from the State Grange for her community service and was also named Woman of the Year from the Daughters of the American Revolution. Sally had many hobbies she enjoyed which included, singing in the local chorus, sewing, crocheting, quilting, and being an avid square dancer. After Charlie and Sally retired, they dedicated their time to volunteering at Maine Veterans Home and the Open Door Church in Hampden. For the last four years, Mum resided at the Maine Veteran’s Home where she received exceptional care which we will always be grateful for. We will have fond memories and miss her home baked goods, her sewing and handmade quilts, and her great sense of humor. We will love reminiscing the beautiful memories we all made together.
She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by her four children; her son, David Gould and wife, Cindy, and their sons; Jason, and Adam, and wife, Veronica; her daughter, Donna Crawford and husband, Chip, and their children, Justin and wife, Alexis, and Amy-Jo; her daughter, Coleen Corneil, and husband, Michael, and their children, Dylan, Collin, and Christian; and her daughter, Sharry Woodside and her daughters, Christie Rose and Lily; her sister, Shirley; her brother, Ron and wife Deb; her great-grandchildren; Justin “JJ” Crawford, Owen Mongeau, Violet Gould, and Edison Gould. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Charles Stanley; her brother, Jim; and sisters; Carol and Marilyn.
Graveside services will be held in the spring with an announcement at a later time. Those who wish to remember Sally in a special way may make donations to Maine Veteran’s Home, 44 Hogan Road, Bangor, ME 04401, and any of their affiliated branches.
