Dr. Allan John Ingraham, DVM, 75 passed away peacefully in his home in Hampden, Maine on July 9, 2016, surrounded by loved ones. As in all aspects of his life he displayed great strength, courage, and character during his final days of a long illness.
Allan was born in Belfast, Maine in 1941, to parents Albert and Lona Denton Ingraham,( now deceased). Allan graduated from Unity- Freedom HS in 1958, become a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity and graduate of the University of Maine, Orono in 1963 and went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University in 1967. In 1973, Dr. Ingraham along with Dr. James Meiczinger and Dr. Dale Rogers opened the Penobscot Veterinary Hospital in Bangor Maine. The three founding doctor’s retired in 2006.
Allan’s passions included beagles, hunting, fishing (any kind), sports, boating and spending time with family and friends at his camp in Orient Maine. He was a member of the Eastern Maine Beagle Club, and enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities which included running, hiking Mount Katahdin and traveling abroad and within the United States. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, humor, intelligence, work ethic, love of life and animals, ice cream making, and for being a wonderful father, grampy beagle, husband, brother, uncle, family member, friend and amazing veterinarian.
Allan will be sadly missed by his wife, Maggie Ingraham and his step daughter Sara Helms, his daughter Jodi Ingraham-Albert (Richard) and their children Hunter, Oliva, Ashley and Brittany, daughter Jill Ingraham and partner Marta Gandara, sister Linda Seng (Bill) from Michigan and niece and nephews Karen Dick, Tom Seng , Brad Seng and Brian Seng and their families, aunt, Beverley Ingraham, brothers- in- law Glenn Clark and Jeffrey Hamadey, sister-in-law Ellen Campbell and many cousins, friends and colleagues throughout the State.
His daughters and family members want to thank his wife Maggie for the incredible care and love she has given him throughout his illness, his sister Linda and husband for their support during the last weeks of his illness and to Beacon Hospice with a special gratitude to Jean Lane for her professionalism, care, and guidance during this difficult time.
Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday July 13, 2016 at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, where a service in celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016. All are invited to the Goodwill Riders Snowmobile Club, 842 Western Ave., Hampden, to share conversation and refreshments following the service .
