Allen passed away February 28th at the age of 81. He was born in Wallagrass, Me. On 9/27/1941.
The fourth child of Gerard and Julienne (Ouelette) Caron As a child he lived in Fort Kent, Wallagrass, Sherman, Stacyville. His family moved several times as his father was in the wood cutting/logging business. He worked in the woods with the crew and was handling a team of horses at the young age of 11 or 12. He was driving pulp trucks at 15 and traveling to the mills with loads of wood. He picked potatoes by hand and mustard weed. His mother and father divorced when he was 17 and he went to Connecticut to stay with his sister, Freida. He found a job there but didn't like the busy lifestyle, so in 1960 he moved back to Maine and stayed with his mother in Brewer. He found a job at a shoe factory. He met his future wife, Sharon, on a blind date at an Orrington church Methodist Youth Fellowship "MYF" meeting through a fellow worker who lived in Orrington. Allen was employed with the City of Brewer, Public Works starting in 1961. He began as a laborer, moved on to light equipment operator, heavy equipment operator, grader operator and ended his career as Supervisor of Public Works and retired March of 2001 after 40 years. Allen and Sharon continued to date after they met, and on 9/1/1961 he asked her to marry him. She said "yes". They were married on 9/1/1962 at the First United Methodist Church in Orrington and celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2022. They built their home in Orrington in 1963, and moved in on 7/4/1964 on the first birthday of their son, Ronald Allen, their second son, Daniel Adam, was born 7/15/1966. Over the years the family did a lot camping starting with tents, then camper trailers, truck campers, and fifth wheels and finally built a camp at Schoodic Lake in 1996 and continued going to camp as often as they could. During Ron and Dan's early years, he and Sharon worked with the Boy Scouts of America den leaders and committee members. Allen enjoved fishing, and had a small business selling mackerel rigs up and down the coast of Maine in the 70's. He learned to tie flies and enjoyed fly fishing at Nesowadnehunk Lake for many years. He has quite a collection of flies that he tied. He enjoyed hunting and over the years shot deer, a bear, and a moose He got a deer last fall in 2022. He and Sharon did a lot of traveling from Maine to Florida to Alaska and Hawaii. To Canada to Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Quebec, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia. They took a road trip across the United States as far as Utah visiting various National Parks and Monuments in
2008. Allen was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2003 and received treatment over the years until 2022 when no more options were available to treat his disease. He fought a couragous battle for nearly 20 years.Allen was predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Frieda, Arnold, Beatrice, Jewell. A niece, Donna Harney.and sister-In law Laurie. He is survived by sons Ronald and Donna, Daniel and Cathy. Grandchildren Zachary and Brooke, Shelby and Tony, and Charlotte. Great grandchildren Milo and Harper Rae. His sister Rinette and husband David, nieces and nephews.
As per Allen's request, there will be no service. A celebration of life will be held March 18th from
1-3 at Jeff's Catering in Brewer. Donations my be made to the First United Methodist Church P O Box 108, Orrington, Maine 04474 Condolences to the family may be expressed at Brookings and Smith.com.
