Alton F. Sabin Jr., 77, passed away on February 4, 2023 at a local hospital. He was born at Fort Sill, Oklahoma on May 6, 1945, to Alton F. Sabin Sr. and Carrie Schneider Sabin of Bangor.

As a child Al was very precocious. He drove the family car down the hill at the age of 3 and took the bus downtown to the movies all by himself at the age of 4. He learned to play the violin at the age of 5. He enjoyed catching pollywogs with his friend Tommy and taunting his 3 sisters which he affectionately nicknamed Witchy, Sea Hag, and Crow Bait. He was known to rip a curler or two from his oldest sister's hair or hit her on the head to put out the fire when they were peaking at presents under the Christmas tree with a candle. As a teen he enjoyed ice skating and downhill skiing. In Al's high school years he was in Orchestra as 1s* violinist and All-State. He ran cross country track where he earned his high school letter. He worked after school at Baldacci's restaurant in downtown Bangor and had a lawn care business with his second sister's boyfriend. He graduated from Bangor Highs class of 1963.

After high school Al moved to Flushing, New York and worked for Allegheny Airlines, before entering the Army and being shipped overseas to the Vietnam War between 1967-1969.

After his return home, Al worked in downtown Bangor for Webster, Baldwin and Day, drafting. He also worked for a time as a drafter in Austin, Texas. Al was co-owner and lead pressman for his family's offset printing business, Sabin and Sons, in Bangor. Then from ages 60-67 he was a security guard for Securitas and was the night supervisor for them at EMMC when he retired.

He was a former member of the Bangor Rotary Club and the Ham Radio Operators Club. He played multiple string instruments and was a member of many local bands Buffalo Creek was his most recent. He enjoyed playing golf, ballroom dancing, flying Cessna planes, refurbishing old computers, playing in an adult Hockey League and rooting for the University of Maine, Black Bear Hockey Team. He enjoyed driving his large oversized car and frequenting his favorite haunts Wendy's and Goodwill at the Bangor Mall. He could often be seen walking the neighborhood he had lived in since 1950.
