Alton Williamson

Hampden - Alton A. Williamson, 84, passed away peacefully at home on April 22,2022.
Alton was born in Wayne County North Carolina on December 30, 1937 and grew up in Faison North Carolina. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and retired in 1975. Alton then worked as a civilian for the Air National Guard and retired in 1992. He was a member of the VFW for over 50 years. Alton served his community by volunteering for local Fire Departments wherever he lived. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and travelling. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his children; Ann W. Downs (Daniel) of Warminster, PA, Susan Leach of Mystic, CT, Glen Williamson (Doreen) of Newburgh, and Lisa C. Ashford (Craig) of Hampden; his grandchildren, Matthew Downs (Sara), Beth Downs, Rebecca Hynes (Blake), Neil Ashford (Nicole), Jennifer Williams (Joshua), and Nicholas Leach; his great grandchildren, Wyatt Downs, Eleanor Hynes, Spencer Hynes, and Jackson Williams, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eleanor (MacVane) Williamson; his parents, Roland Williamson and Annie (Barwick) Williamson Brown; his step-father, Marsden H. Brown; his brothers, Robert E. and Ralph L. Williamson.
Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM Friday May 20, 2022 at the Hampden – Gilpatrick Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 45 Western Ave, Hampden, where a funeral service will begin at 5:00 PM with Pastor David Gardiner, officiating. Private interment will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden.
