Ann McKay
Bangor
Ann McKay went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2024.
She was born November 24, 1952 in Augusta, the daughter of Dr. Keith and Barara McKay. She grew up in Hallowell and graduated from Hall-Dale High School. She received a B.A. in French language and literature from Bates College in 1975 and a master’s degree in library and information science from SUNY/Albany in 1976. She came to know the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ at SUNY/Albany and dedicated the rest of her life to His service.
Ann was an accomplished flutist and served in school and college bands, Hallowell Community Band, Augusta American Legion Band, Kennebec Valley A Band, Maine All-State Band, and All-New England Orchestra, as well as the Concert Band at New England Music Camp. She toured Europe in 1971 with the Concordia Youth Wind Ensemble, an outreach of the Boston Conservatory of Music. Ann participated in the music ministry of every church and Christian community of which she was a member and had several flute students over the years. She served as a health science librarian at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston (Technical Services Librarian 1977-1984; Acting Director 1985-86) and at Bath Memorial Hospital (Library Director, (1986-87). She was a member of Servants of the Cross, a covenant Christian community based in Topsham and was a full-time staff member there from 1988 to 1992. In 1992, she moved to Bangor, where she was employed as Office Manager at Eastern Maine Podiatry, P.A., a position which she held for many years. She retired after four years at the Hanger Clinic in 2018.
Upon moving to Bangor, she joined Abundant Life Church and was an active member there. Ann was a member of the Praise and Worship Team, a deacon, a teacher of both children and adults, and a participant in the women’s ministry, prayer ministry, and healing team Ann was a devoted member of First Assembly (Bangor) since 2018.
Ann had a special place in her heart for Israel, for the persecuted church worldwide and for the unborn, and was a supporter of several local and international ministries. Ann was a history buff and a patron of the arts. She served as a volunteer for the Maine Public Broadcasting Network (pledge drive computer tallier) and as a tutor for Literacy Volunteers for several years.
She was predeceased by her brother Daniel Keith McKay (1982), mother Barbara Haney McKay (2011) and father Keith Merrill McKay (2024). Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Richard Wilkinson of Eustis.
A funeral service will be held 2 pm Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor with Pastor Phil Mumford, officiating.
