Hampden – Ann Marie Ryder, 70, passed away June 10, 2021, with her loving son, PJ Dumont, by her side. She was born November 27, 1950, the daughter of Henry Francis “Fran” and Hilda Mae (LaRochelle) Ryder.
She was educated at St. John’s Parochial School and was a member of the class of 1968 at John Bapst High School. Ann continued her education at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and the University of Maine.
Ann’s career included time operating a local elderly care facility with her mother, along with positions at Northeast Computer Services and Depositors Trust Company. After becoming a mother, she focused on and excelled at becoming a homemaker and mentor to her only child, PJ. During her earlier years, she was active in a local sorority, before a number of poor health issues led to her decline. The constants in Ann’s life going forward were her love and devotion to her son, until her dying day.
In the late 80’s and early 90’s, Ann was an avid supporter of University of Maine Black Bear hockey. She eagerly volunteered time, was instrumental in the initial 50-50 drawing held at home games and made many road trips to follow the Black Bears. She enjoyed cooking and reading.
In addition to her son, Ann is survived by a special aunt and best friend, Gail and her husband, Cliff Bridgham, of Glenburn, and another aunt, Betty Craft of MS; two brothers, John and wife, Susan Ryder, of Bangor, and Patrick and wife, Mary Lynne Murray-Ryder, of SC; nephews, Matthew and Andrew Ryder, and many more nieces and nephews through marriage.
In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by her brother, Michael Ryder; dear friend, Marti Dumont; and Hilda’s second husband, Lawrence Shaw.
The family would like to thank Ann’s health care team, especially Dr. Aaron Karmes and the staff of St. Joseph Family Medicine in Hampden, Dr. Hui Liu and the staff of Northeast Nephrology and the team at St. Joseph Homecare and Hospice, with special thanks to her primary nurses, Yolana Martin and Lisa Goodell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor, followed by the Rite of Committal at Mt. Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor.
