Orono
Anne E. Hathaway, 98, wife of the late Winfield Scott Hathaway, passed away November 12, 2013 in Orono. She was born May 24, 1915 in Dover, NH, daughter of Edwin L, and Adelaide Towle Corson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Bernice Hathaway of Saco, two daughters, Dianne Ewing of Longmont, CO, Cynthia Wright of Ellsworth, eight grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Anne graduated from Dover, NH, High School and the University of New Hampshire, class of 1937. At the university she was a member of Theta Upsilon, later Delta Zeta Sorority, the New Hampshire Masque and Dagger and the Women’s Debating Team. In recent years she had served as secretary of the class of 1937 at UNH.
Before coming to Orono in 1960, the family lived in Beaver Falls, PA, Huntington, WV, Jasper AL, Dover, NH, Cohasset, MA, and Bangor.
Anne was a member of the American Association of University Women for more than 60 years, had served on the boards of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and most recently that of the Salvation Army of the Bangor Citadel. She was also an active member of the Church of Universal Fellowship in Orono.
Anne was employed by the University of Maine from 1962 - 1981 in the Department of Residential Life. After retirement she served as a Vista Volunteer under the Maine Department of the Elderly in Augusta, based in Bangor with the then Penquis RSVP.
Graveside services will be held in the spring in Columbia Falls.
